After years in the diaspora, I faced my fate as an educator. In 1989 I went back to school and earned a graduate certificate in education and began my life as a social studies teacher. I started in New Haven at a Magnet school, but left for the suburbs after just a few years. My new home in Enfield was not what I had hoped, so I left teaching to work in graphic design and project management. after five years in the tech industry, I returned to teaching as a tech ed teacher in East Lyme. By then I had a family, my lovely wife Jo-Ann, two daughters, Emily & Abigail, and a home in Glastonbury, CT.
At East Lyme I became a crew coach and spent 13 years teaching computer science in a community I sincerely loved. After a chance meeting at a dog park in town, I was offered a job in the town next door and moved to East Hartford High School. For the last five years, I've taught photography, graphics and AP Comp Sci - more money and closer to home and family.
I still play guitar and perform in public from time to time. After high school I embraced my acoustic side and play mandolin, bass and guitar - mostly favorite old songs and finger-style these days.
Along the way, I've managed 3 full marathons, hundreds of road races and am a USRowing level III and RRCA certified coach. Life has been good.
